Under-Cabinet Lighting in Jacksonville: Plan the Countertop, Not Just the Fixture

Do not conceal an extension cord inside a wall or cabinet modification as a substitute for a properly planned installation. Have electrical connections and any required wiring changes evaluated by a qualified electrician.

Choose controls before ordering

Decide whether the counter lighting should operate separately from the ceiling lights. Describe the settings you want: bright preparation lighting, a lower evening setting, or straightforward on/off operation.

Clarify what the installation price includes

Ask the proposal to identify fixture quantities, equipment supply, wiring, controls, and any associated electrical work. Confirm responsibility for access openings, patching, painting, and cabinet or backsplash restoration.

An existing finished kitchen may present different access challenges from a kitchen with cabinets and walls already open. Share your remodeling schedule early so the electrical work can be coordinated with other trades.

At the final walkthrough, operate every lighting section and control. Review the lowest and highest settings you expect to use, visible wiring, and where equipment information will be kept.
