Use documents and safe, ground-level observations. Do not open electrical boxes or climb to inspect wiring. Stop using equipment that trips protection repeatedly or shows damage; have the cause assessed.

1. Map the display

Mark the entrance, roofline, landscaping, and other areas you want illuminated.
Identify existing outdoor outlets from a safe position.
Separate must-have features from optional additions.
Note the planned setup date, display period, and removal date.

2. Make an equipment inventory

List each light set, inflatable, projector, timer, and powered accessory.
Save the exact product model, instructions, and electrical rating for each item.
Confirm products and accessories are intended for their proposed location.
Check light sets for visible damage before planning to reuse them.

3. Review the routes

Sketch how power would reach each display area.
Mark walkways, vehicle paths, doors, irrigation, and exposed connections.
Identify locations that would require a cord through a doorway or another unsuitable route.
Ask whether a permanent outdoor outlet would better serve a recurring display.

4. Prepare questions for the electrician

Ask which planned outlets share a circuit and whether the proposed equipment can be supported.
Have outdoor receptacle condition, covers, and GFCI protection assessed where suitability is uncertain.
Describe previous trips or intermittent operation, including what was connected.
Request a written scope separating electrical work from hanging decorations.

5. Coordinate installation and use

Confirm access, installation timing, and any expected power interruption.
