Use this worksheet before ordering an induction appliance or scheduling delivery. It helps you gather information for an electrician and coordinate the work around your kitchen. It does not replace the appliance instructions or a professional electrical assessment.

1. Identify the appliance

• Record the manufacturer and exact model number.
• Save the manufacturer’s installation instructions, not just the sales brochure.
• Identify whether this is a freestanding range, slide-in range, or built-in cooktop.
• Confirm whether a separate oven is also being installed or replaced.
• Note whether the appliance will stay in its current location.
• Give the electrician specifications for each model still under consideration.

Induction uses magnetic fields to heat compatible cookware. Check your intended cookware against the appliance manufacturer’s guidance. The Department of Energy’s induction overview explains the basic technology.

2. Describe the current kitchen

• Identify the existing appliance as gas, electric, or another arrangement.
• Share photographs of the appliance area that can be taken without moving equipment.
• Photograph the electrical panel exterior and visible labels with its protective cover in place.
• Tell the electrician about known electrical problems or prior modifications.
• Identify any planned cabinet, countertop, or appliance-location changes.
• Mention other planned major electrical additions, such as EV charging.

Do not remove electrical covers, disconnect wiring, or move a heavy appliance to complete this worksheet. The electrician can inspect inaccessible connections during the assessment.

Ask your electrician to document the proposed scope rather than trying to fill in technical specifications yourself.

• Does the existing supply meet the selected appliance’s installation requirements?
• Is existing wiring suitable for reuse, and what needs correction?
• Is additional circuit or service capacity needed?
• If changes are recommended, what finding supports each change?
• What wiring route is proposed, and what access is required?
• What applicable permits or inspections are included?

• Agree on access arrangements and expected kitchen downtime.
• Make sure the model number in the scope matches the appliance ordered.
• Keep installation instructions available for the appointment.
