Use this checklist before ordering or installing a traditional electric sauna, infrared sauna, outdoor sauna, or combination unit. Plan from the exact equipment documents and site conditions rather than a generic product description.
Do not remove panel covers, open electrical equipment, or measure energized parts. Safe exterior photographs and clear access are enough for initial planning.

1. Identify the complete sauna package
- Record the sauna manufacturer, complete model number, dimensions, and installation type.
- Save the current manuals for the enclosure, heater, controller, sensors, lighting, and accessories.
- Record the listed voltage, circuit rating, connection method, and overcurrent-protection instructions.
- Confirm whether the sauna will be indoors, outdoors, or in a detached structure.
- Send the documents to the electrician before ordering connection equipment or scheduling delivery.

2. Document the proposed location
- Photograph the full installation area, access path, nearby walls, ceiling, floor, doors, and ventilation.
- Mark the planned heater, controller, sensor, lighting, and accessory locations on a dimensioned layout.
- Identify heat, humidity, rain, irrigation, salt air, flooding, or vehicle-impact exposure.
- Note framing, insulation, vapor-control, finish, clearance, and service-access requirements from the manufacturer.
- Confirm whether association, landlord, condominium, historic-property, or accessory-structure approval applies.

3. Prepare for the electrical assessment
- Photograph the closed electrical panel, its exterior label, and the clear area around it without removing covers.
- List major loads such as HVAC, water heating, cooking equipment, dryers, pools, hot tubs, EV chargers, and workshops.
- Map the likely route from the panel to the sauna, including attic, crawlspace, garage, finished-wall, masonry, or outdoor access.
- Tell the electrician about recurring trips, flickering, heat, odors, corrosion, water intrusion, or prior electrical changes.
- Ask whether a documented load evaluation, panel work, service work, or a new dedicated circuit is required.

4. Coordinate the contractors
- Identify who prepares the site, framing, flooring, finishes, clearances, and ventilation.
- Identify who supplies and installs the electrical circuit, connection equipment, heater, controls, sensors, and lighting.
- Confirm who handles plumbing, drainage, gas, or other non-electrical work when applicable.
- Agree on the order of rough-in, enclosure assembly, finish work, final connection, inspection, and startup.
- Confirm who approves changes if the delivered model or concealed conditions differ from the plan.

5. Confirm approvals and installation-day details
- Ask the licensed contractor which permits and inspections apply to the property and scope.
- Keep the panel, wiring route, sauna location, and required service clearances accessible.
- Confirm that the delivered model matches the reviewed manuals before final connection.
- Do not use extension cords, altered cords, plug adapters, or unapproved devices to make incompatible equipment connect.
- Keep ordinary switches, receptacles, controls, drivers, and accessories out of heat or humidity zones unless specifically approved for the location.

6. Complete startup and handover
- Confirm circuit and equipment labels, protective devices, controls, sensors, lighting, and safety functions are complete.
- Have the responsible installer follow the manufacturer startup and testing procedure.
- Ask how to shut down the equipment and what to do if a breaker trips, controls reset, or heat or odor appears.
- Save manuals, permits, inspection records, photographs, model and serial numbers, invoices, and warranties together.
- Record any unfinished item, responsible contractor, and agreed completion date.
