Commercial sign and exterior lighting readiness checklist
Coordinate equipment, circuits, controls, access, contractor responsibilities, and final testing before installation crews arrive.
Do not schedule lifts or sign installers until power sources, routes, responsibilities, and site access have been confirmed.
Define the equipment and electrical scope
- List every illuminated sign, wall pack, canopy light, floodlight, landscape fixture, pole fixture, and directional element
- Collect voltage, load, mounting, driver, power-supply, and control information for each product
- Identify equipment to install, reuse, relocate, remove, or reserve for a future project phase
- Verify the proposed panel, circuit, breaker, voltage, route, and available electrical capacity
- Share sign drawings, fixture schedules, landlord standards, site plans, photographs, and target dates
Coordinate people, controls, and access
- Assign responsibility for circuits, disconnects, controls, conduit, penetrations, sealing, patching, permits, lifts, and inspections
- Define the handoff between the electrician, sign company, general contractor, landlord, tenant, and landscaper
- Set operating schedules for signs, customer areas, security lighting, landscape lighting, and service zones
- Choose photocell, time-clock, astronomical, automation, and manual-override requirements
- Plan roof, ceiling, parking, gate, tenant-space, traffic-control, escort, and after-hours access
Prepare for testing and long-term service
- Protect routes and equipment from rain, humidity, ultraviolet exposure, pests, corrosion, irrigation, and landscaping damage
- Keep drivers, power supplies, photocells, junction boxes, controls, and disconnects accessible for service
- Label circuits, breakers, controls, disconnects, and concealed power supplies consistently
- Test every sign, fixture, schedule, photocell, override, and control sequence before turnover
- Deliver operating instructions, equipment records, warranties, permits, inspection documents, and service contacts
